People, Ideas, Words: Friday's Fave Five #3

January 22, 2010

Hope you’ve had a great week. Thanks for stopping by to hear about my favorites from this week. If you’re new to Friday’s Fave Five, you can read more about how to jump in at Living to Tell the Story. Thanks, Susanna, for hosting!

Blessings from this week:

1. Good tech support – That’s kind of unusual, isn’t it? This was my “sixth” last week, but I saved it till this week. My blog designers, Tekeme Studios, have been wonderful. Not only did they come up with a great design that I love, they’ve taught me how to use it. And they’ve put up with my technical stupidity, answering countless emails and even calling to explain and help. They’re great!

2. My newsletter subscribers – They keep on coming. I started out with four, and more readers are signing up. That’s so encouraging! My hope is that I can provide some encouragement on Mondays to start your week out. Feel free to join in and subscribe. I’d love to have you!

3. An interesting study from the Kaiser Family Foundation – Just released, this study confirms what many of us moms know: what we do makes a difference. It examines the effects of media use on kids and teens. I’ll be blogging about it soon.

4. Ideas – Oh, they’re such wonderful things! Our Creator is the author of creativity, and I’m so grateful He graces us with ideas from time to time. I had one of those lightbulb moments the other day, and I can’t wait to write about it.

5. An honest quote"Motherhood brings as much joy as ever, but it still brings boredom, exhaustion, and sorrow too. Nothing else ever will make you as happy or as sad, as proud or as tired, for nothing is quite as hard as helping a person develop his own individuality especially while you struggle to keep your own." - Marguerite Kelly and Elia Parsons

So true. Being a mother brings great joy, but it isn’t easy. And it does involve an identity struggle, even if all you’ve ever wanted to be is a mom. For there are stages of momdom, and we have to bid old stages goodbye and embrace new ones. Sometimes we forget our job is to help our children along to become the people God ordained them to be. It’s such a noble thing. So incredibly worth the time, the tears, the pride and the pain.

How about you? What are your fave five from this week? Join in or just leave me a comment. I’d love to hear from you.

Happy weekend. (I’m going on a mini getaway…)

Laura

Good on you!!! I always dream of finding a new design, but then I love changing it up...so I don't know how long it would last.

I really love that quote. It speaks to some things parents don't always talk about out in public about parenting ... boredom and exhaustion can certainly be some of the more challenging things about parenting some times.

Thanks for sharing these things...I love reading things that bloggers are thankful for. It is a boost to my own heart, and yours certainly did that for me today.

Ideas, readers, a good quote, tech support, a good book to study... thanks for sharing.

And have a lovely weekend getaway!

Love
Lidj
