Do You Ever Unravel?

Thursday April 1, 2010

“Do you ever unravel?”

This question came from another blogger, a sweet mom of six. She had just read my newsletter entitled “Outnumbered by self-doubt” that I posted here.

When I read her question, I said aloud, “Are you KIDDING?”

I can’t even count the times I’ve lost it with my boys, my dear hubby, the dog…

Overworked, stretched to the limit, just a silly offhand comment could set me off.

And the times I’ve melted in my hubby’s arms, crying, “I don’t feel like I’m doing a good job of anything!” or “There is NO way I’ll get all of this done.”

How to deal with all my failures, my shortcomings, my meltdowns?

After the tears…
I remind myself I’m not perfect, and I never will be.
I ask forgiveness, drink in grace, and begin anew.

We all unravel, and our Father knows our frame; He doesn’t expect perfection, and we shouldn’t either.

Our best plan is to be real with our family and our Father.

We can only turn to Him for our help, and lead our children to His well of grace.

Wishing you grace today,

Hi Laura... Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Your site is so refreshing. I just read your "unraveling" post and loved it. So true and hearing how other moms experience the same feelings and how our Lord doesn't expect perfection. Ahhh..... His grace. Thank you for that breath of fresh air. I am a follower now. I will be back. Nancy

Oh my! As you can tell from my last post, I am having a week of unraveling! ;) I feel like I've lost ground in some key areas -- especially with my teen -- but I know that God's grace is there. I just have to receive it and get back with the program, letting Him empower me!

It helps if you have a partner that you can communicate with. Raising children is not all fun and games and it's natural to get at the end of your rope. But very important to look at the big picture and say 'This too shall pass.'and it does, until next time.
Thank you for your visit.

Maybe it's because I'm still kind of new to the whole parenting thing, but it's reassuring to me to hear that even the most (seemingly) put-together moms sometimes unravel. It's so easy to envy the ones who seem to have it all under control that it's also easy to forget that they struggle sometimes too.

Thanks for stopping by. I see you're outnumbered 2 boys and 1 husband. I can relate!

Great post.

Hmmm, I should have those "meltdown" tags in my blog posts. But then every entry would be tagged as such. :D

Have a great day!

Wonderful post! I like to remind myself often that perfect is boring :) We live and learn and it's an amazing journey!

Comforting words, Laura. If you didn't unravel, you'd be perfect, right? ;)

You're so right.

This week I was talking to a friend about just being overwhelmed with the "stuff" of daily life. He reminded me that the answer is GRACE. So true.
