Sounds of November: Gratitude Checkup #4

Wednesday November 10, 2010

As we rush through life, we often take the valuable for granted. All too often, appreciation crops up only when we sense something slipping away.

As September nears, we long for the lazy summer days.
When the toddler walks, we miss those calmer, quieter days.
When the teen begins to drive, we wish we could put him on his bike again.

Most of us are blessed enough to have great command of all five of our senses, so it’s easy to forget what a miracle sight is or the blessing of sound, taste, smell, and touch.

With gratitude ever on my mind this month, I’ve taken time to ponder the blessing of sound.

Here are some of my favorites.

Silence at naptime
Little giggles
Childhood songs

Leaves crunching underfoot
Waves lapping up on shore
“I love you, Mom” – across the phone lines

So, still yourself. Close your eyes. Listen. Remember.

What are some of your favorite sounds – big or little, past or present?

I'm thankful for the sounds of my Little People singing, my husband's steady breathing while he sleeps, birds in the early morning hours, the waves on the beach in Destin.

Enjoy your day, Laura... so thankful I can enjoy your thoughts over my morning coffee!!

Yes little giggles is a fav but I do love hearing the hum of the garage door opening, knowing my hubby is home.

-Hearing the wind blow through the leaves of the trees.
-Hearing my youngest yell "Daddy" when he see's the hallway light come on and knows that Daddy's home.
-Listening to little giggles when the boys are being tickled.

The chickadee at the suet feeder. And the owl hooting from the oak tree in early morning (guess I like bird sounds!).

Hearing, the more my Mom looses her hearing, the more I treasure being able to hear. I love the bird singing early in the morning. The rustle of wind on the leaves. My childrens voices and grandchildren calling our names. :)

Hi Laura, thanks for stopping by my place today.

I love your list of sounds or non-sounds. Guess my favorite one today is "waves lapping up on the shore." It really goes with my post.

I am thankful for a quiet house in the evenings. Hearing my 4-year-old sing. Hearing my new dishwasher that hums instead of moans.
