Deep into January: Friday's Fave Five

Friday January 21, 2011

Here we are, deep into January. There's no turning back now! February, the month of love, is on its way, I figure -- in fact, just around the corner.

Thanks to Susanne at Living to Tell the Story for hosting Friday’s Fave Five. It’s a great opportunity to share our favorites of the week. If you’d like to join in, just visit Susanne and get the details.

Here are my week's blessings:

1. Sons and jobs. One of my sons just began his student teaching this week. He called after the first day, happy and so excited. It was so neat to hear! Two others are working hard but not in their chosen field. I look forward to those calls and hearing the excitement in their voices, too. I'm thankful they have jobs and are working hard, and I do pray for just the right opportunity to open up for both of them. (I know, that makes three. The fourth is working hard as a college freshman, and doing an awesome job of that -- and loving it!)

2. Pre-posting. I don't know if that's what you call it or not, but I'm thankful for the ability to post ahead. I felt a bug coming on this past weekend, and I spent some time posting ahead. Thank goodness -- because it hit me full force, and I spent my day off Monday mostly in bed! It's almost gone and I'm feeling better, though. Looking forward to having a little downtime without sickness this weekend.

3. 200+ posts. I happened to glance at my Blogger dashboard the other day and noticed I was nearing 200 posts! I did a short post about this yesterday and you left some really nice comments. Made my day! (It took me awhile to be convinced I wanted to jump in this pool, but now I'm SO glad I did.)

4. A musical! Yes, I'm going to see Les Miz this weekend, and I'm so excited. Love the story, love the message, love the music...can't wait.

5. A box of books. I was excited this week to receive a box of book from Barbour Publishing. I was a contributor to Book Lover's Devotional that was just published. I got to go on and on about my favorite classic books and talk about their messages. It turned out very nice, and I'm excited about that. If you're a lover of the classics, you should check it out.

Well, my quote will just have to be a bonus!

"Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure and spontaneous pleasures are 'patches of godlight' in the woods of experience." (C.S. Lewis)

Keep warm. Here's wishing you more January joy.

Congratulations on 200 posts! My oldest son just got his first "real job" i.e. full time with benefits. It is such a wonderful feeling to see him so independent.

Have a great weekend, Laura!

Valentine's is one of my favorite holidays and gives me something to look forward to during winter.

So neat that your sons are learning and growing and thriving in their jobs/studies.

I would LOVE to see Les Miz in person!

I will check out that book -- I love the classics.

Really... that's C.S. Lewis? Thinking of Narnia, somehow I didn't expect it coming from him, but those words are wonderful. I need to read more biography. Books! what a high! Glad you are feeling better.

I know the feeling you have when your son is excited about his job. I so love to get these positive feedback.
I haven't learned about pre-posting, just save as draft and with my memory I forget to upload the draft and then the post is a day old and I have managed to do this one day a week for the past month. 200 + congrats, I missed your yesterday but I usually get caught up by Hump Day, ha ha.
I forgot do you write reviews of books? A box of them hum, I'm lucky to read one in, never mind.

200 posts -- awesome, girl, awesome!

And I love that C.S. Lewis quote -- light on wood (even wood inside my house, never mind outdoors woods!) is so warm -- it always takes me breath away.

Glad you are feeling better...and I hope your comupter is back up and running, too (mine finally is!).

Congrats on reaching 200 posts! I'm glad you 'finally' took the plunge and joined the blogsphere. Hurray for the 'boys' having jobs! That's a true blessing. Hope you continue to regain all your health.
