Family, Friends, Words: Friday's Fave Five

Friday February 25, 2011

Time for a rundown of my favorite things from this week. Once again, a great time to look back and count your blessings! Thanks to Susanne from Living to Tell the Story for hosting. Visit Susanne and join us.

Here are five of my week’s blessings:

1. An incredible weekend! Hubby and I flew away and got to see my mom, three of our boys, our sweet daughter-in-law and precious grandson all from Friday to Monday. Added bonuses? Staying with my college roommate and meeting a son's new girlfriend – both were great! There are a few pictures (and a little parody of flying) in my earlier post here.

2. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Oh, my…what a book. I was transported to another time, another place, another skin. What a story. I could not put it down. So incredibly thought-provoking.

3. Friends like this. Jeanie will probably have my head for talking about her like this (the last thing she wants to do is “toot her own horn”), but I have to link to my sweet friend’s blog so you can see her heart. Her journey with Esther touches me so because she is a twin of all those wonderful friends and neighbors who minister to my 85 year old mom in my absence. Those of us on the receiving end of such love and compassion understand; all we can say is “Thanks.”

4. This review. Shonya of Learning How Much I Don’t Know shared from her heart about my book, and it’s just such a great review. I just sat here with a big, silly grin on my face as I read it. You know, I’m Outnumbered is the book of my heart – I wrote it for boy moms, and to hear from one who felt encouraged? It’s such a blessing. Thanks again, Shonya.

5. An Emerson quote. I know I’ve referenced this quote before, and it was probably at this same spot on FFF. But I can’t help it – I just love it. What a great notion to live by.

Don’t waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

FFF Friends, I was off baby-holding last weekend, so I didn’t make my way around very well. But I’ll be seeing you this weekend at your place.

A great week to you.

Love your faves this week and once again, a fantastic quote from one of my faves! I read The Help last summer and it left a profound impact and started good discussion between my family and I....it was an excellent read. So glad you got time for that baby holding!! Enjoy your weekend, Laura.

I also really enjoyed The Help when I read it last year. It's a great story, easy to read, and thought-provoking all at the same time.

I'm glad you were blessed by the review--esp since your book blessed me so much! :D

I read "the Help" last year. What a great book, much more than just a simple story and you're right, very thought provoking.

Very cute pics of you and your grandson. I cannot believe how fast he is growing!

It's good to be reminded that people are more important than lists.
