But Thursday is often overlooked. Many don’t know it has its own name – Maundy Thursday.
(Derived through Middle English and Old French mande, from the Latin mandatum, it is the first word [commandment] of John 13:34: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another as I have loved you.”)
Good Friday and Easter Sunday are the stars of the season, but without the foundation Christ lay on Thursday, His disciples would have been scratching their heads all the more.
Thursday lent meaning to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the disciples.
Its meaning for me?
This year, remember Thursday.

Yes, Laura, thank you for this reminder... Thursday is so often overlooked and I am guilty of that, too. I'll be praying and pondering the richness of this day today. Bless you!
In the church where I grew up, we had a Maundy Thursday service. (I don't remember learning anything about the significance of the day, but that's probably just my lack of attention.) Now I don't think we recognize it--although of course we talk often about loving, serving, and sharing the gospel.
Thanks for reminding me of what happened on Thursday many years ago.

Oh I am emotional today, or maybe it is just how precious Jesus is! Yes, Yes! And I will email you. ;)
Laura, yes His important last instructions I tend to forget. I bet they remembered later, too. Thanks for that reminder. (Now my post seems so silly...sigh.)
Thank you for this Laura,
I am definitely at the point in my life when I lose the glory of Easter if I miss our Maundy Thursday services. This year we are in a different church and will have Good Friday services, either way, I believe we need to go through the sorrow in order to fully rejoice on Sunday.
Thanks for this post!
Praying many blessings for you and yours this Holy Week
Good reminder. . . it all was a part of the plan.
Fondly,
Glenda
Maundy Thursday does get lost in the shuffle, doesn't it? Thanks for this reminder.
What a wonderful reminder! Oh, how he loves us!
