We had a little lesson in the Old Testament tabernacle on Sunday.
I never realized that two important elements in the tabernacle connect the dots from the Old Testament to the new, and they serve as a reminder for me today.
The showbread was placed on a special table in the tabernacle. It consisted of twelve loaves of bread baked of the finest flour, representing the twelve tribes of Israel. The showbread was also called the “bread of the presence,” signifying God’s presence and His desire to commune with us.
And on a table illuminating the showbread was the lampstand. It was the only light in the tabernacle, enabling the priest’s work to be accomplished. The lampstand shed light on the showbread, the bread of presence—symbol of the coming Bread of Life.
Today’s question was, “Where is the lampstand?”
In Revelation, the church is referred to as a lampstand—its purpose is to illuminate His presence.
I’m part of that lampstand. My question is, “What do I shed light on?”
Do I take the lampstand where it doesn’t need to be, trying to shed light on the unimportant? Am I fastened on the mirror…does the lampstand illumine my glory or His?
The lampstand’s purpose—my purpose—is to illuminate, spotlight Him.
May I shine the light on the Worthiest of Presence today.

That's a great question to begin the week, on a Monday morning ... am I trying to illuminate His light or mine? Going to try and keep the spotlight on Him.
i too, hope that my lampstand shines on Him. thank you for the reminder.

I sure hope I shine for Jesus this week as well....and pointing people to Him....our sermon was about how the harvest is plentiful....and how we need to be missionaries right in the place where He has us...no matter where that might be :)
What a great lesson. Thanks for sharing, Laura. And yes you do shine that light.
I love the idea that we are a lampstand. Yet, it comes with great irresponsibility. for God threatened to remove the lamp from the Ephesian church if they did not return to their first love. He takes it so serious and we should as well.
Yes! For way too long I wanted the light to shine on me, but now, He is changing my heart in the most loving way. As I take in more of Him, I want to share this great love with others, pointing them to the Source, the eternal light. It becomes a natural outpouring, at least most days!
Always love your thought-provoking questions.
What do I shed light on?
Tough but necessary question this week. Thanks again Laura.
