Can you name five blessings from your week? Susanne from Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday’s Fave Five each week. Click on over and see her if you’d like to join in!
FFF friends, I didn’t get around to see you last weekend because I was whisked off on my surprise birthday trip! I promise to stop by and say hi this weekend.
Here are my favorites for this week:
1. My birthday trip! There are some pictures and reflections here. It was a great weekend. It was so relaxing, and I felt incredibly pampered. My hubby is definitely a keeper.
2. A crazy week. This is Homecoming Week at school, which makes it crazy in some respects. In others, it’s a great week. A little less pressure than usual on one hand, kids a little hyper on the other. But it’s fun. And today we took the entire high school to the beach for our annual Beach Day. Fun, fun, fun.
3. Poetry. I do love the rhyme. We read King Lear a couple of weeks ago and Shakespeare’s wordplay is still rolling around in my head. And I finished our Madrigal Dinner script this week (which is in rhymed couplets), and that kind of poetry is play for me. Sure wish there was a market for poetry. I love reading it and writing it.
4. Anticipation. I’m off to a conference next week, and I’m so excited. I’m weighing some decisions and directions and I feel like this conference will be really helpful. Besides, I’ve been communicating with some of the ladies via email and I’m anxious to meet them face-to-face. (Another bit of anticipation -- all those birthday cards waiting for me to open tonight. Today's my day, for real.)
5. A quote. Since I talked about poetry and decisions and new directions, I can’t escape Frost’s words:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood…
To read all of this beautiful poem, just click here. Robert Frost’s work is beautiful.
Wishing you a road diverged in a yellow wood this week!

Happy birthday Laura! I love your Frida lists - there is always a surprise among them - like this week when you mention rhyme. makes me stop and appreciate that more.
Favorite Front quote too.
You made my day
Happy Birthday, Laura! And that beach trip sounds...well...WILD! Have a wonderful day.
So glad you had a pampered birthday trip. What a great husband you have, and you are obviously a great wife!
I just can't imagine my high school class ever going to the beach together. Such a great field trip.
Happy birthday!!!
Happy Birthday to a dear blogging buddy!! and how awesome...what a great trip!! Yay for beach days but wow.. the entire school?? that would be a little over 2500 kids for the high school in my district. My daughter had over 400 students in the grad class...I cannot imagine them all being on one beach..lol! And I am not really into poetry but Robert Frost is one I can at least understand most of the time :) love this.
happy weekend!
Happy birthday, Laura! A little late but heartfelt nonetheless. I'm with you when it comes to poetry. I love to read it and to write it but there sure isn't much of a market for it. That doesn't take away from my appreciation of a witty or beautiful turn of phrase, however. Maybe someday it will come back in style. We can always hope. Have a blessed week.
Happy actual birthday! The celebration sounds wonderful.
I can imagine the atmosphere of Homecoming week as well.
I admire anyone who can write poetry! Would love to peek in at your madrigal dinner.
Hope the conference goes well.
That poem is one of my all-time favorites.
Happy birthday, Laura! I'm so glad that your husband whisked you away for a surprise trip, and that your celebration has been so happy!
Happy Birthday! Hope it was a great one! Thanks for stopping by my blog today.
Happy birthday Laura. Robert Frost's words brought me fond memories. I still remember the beautiful painting that accompanied this poetry the first time I read it and I loved it.
Happy birthday, and thanks for sharing such happy things with us. That poem is a favorite of my son's.
Happy Birthday!! Sounds like you had a great week : )
Yay for your birthday! What fun. Can't wait to hear all about the conference, too.
Happy Birthday Laura! Your special trip sounds wonderful. I would love to be sitting in one those chairs in your picture right about now.
