Young Eyes

Friday May 4, 2012

G.K. Chesterton had something to say about young eyes and our capacity for wonder. Keep reading...

I'm joining with my FFF friends today to count the week's blessings. If you'd like to link up, just click on over to Living to Tell the Story. We'd love to have you!

My favorites for this week:

1. Roses for no reason. Pretty peach ones. My hubby walked in with them the other day. Nice.

2. No more research papers to grade. I’m finished! What a great feeling.

3. A nice shout out and a sweet picture. One of my former students (am I that old?) has a couple of little girls and just got back from Ethiopa with another girl and a boy. Sweet story. Someone brought her a copy of I'm Outnumbered this week since this is her first boy, and she posted a picture of her new little boy and my book on my Facebook author page. So sweet! (Click on over to see it, even if you aren't on Facebook. And you can "like" the page while you're there!)

4. Watching your boys grow up. Our youngest just finished another year of college and is getting all set up in an apartment for part of the summer. Moving himself, cooking for himself. Wow.

5. This quote:

“Our capacity to be amazed and to wonder seems to diminish with age. We don’t look behind, beyond and beneath things as much; nothing surprises us anymore. We’ve grown old, and our imaginative vision fades along with our cataract-clouded eyes. This malady, this loss of our childlikeness, is a huge impediment to seeing God in the world. Our lost innocence deadens our senses…It may be that [God] has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.” (G.K. Chesterton)

“The eternal appetite of infancy” – that’s what I want!

Wishing you young eyes this week,

Wow is right. It really is something hearing how our kids are doing well out on their own. Makes me happy.
Yippee for no more papers to grade!
Wonderful quote...
Have a great weekend.

Great quote....yay for no more papers to grade and that's awesome, although maybe a little bittersweet, to see your youngest boy move out on his own. and yay for hubbies who bring pretty roses :) have a blessed weekend, Laura!

I can imagine the thrill of no more research papers! And roses "just because" are such a joy.

Intriguing quote by Chesterton.

I saw peach roses for the first time today. You lucky girl! They are gorgeous!

Wow, another out on his own. Where does the time go?

Oooh, roses! How sweet!

Amazing how quickly those kids start growing up and moving out. Bittersweet, yes.

Good luck, winding down the school year, Laura!

"just because" flowers are the best of all, aren't they?

I'm glad your year is winding down. I'm sure you're looking forward to the summer, you deserve the rest.

How sweet of your young friend to leave a kind note on your wall!
