She was probably dressed very simply, and she didn’t attract any attention. She walked up to the collection box and simply dropped in her two coins—all she had.
Have you ever wondered why she gave all she had?
Did God—the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Ps. 50:10)—need the little lady’s two small coins? Logically, no; they were a drop in the bucket.
We’re not told much about the widow, but I’m guessing she didn’t sit down and reason it out. I doubt she consulted her budget or projections about the economy. It seems to me, she gave out of love.
She loved God. She trusted Him to provide for tomorrow’s bread…and the next day…and the next.
That’s trust. I have a job and still worry about the future. I have a house and worry about where the market will go. Where’s the trust there?
That little lady leads me to ask myself, “What are my actions based upon? Reason? Logic? Or trust and obedience that grows from love?”
That’s what I need: to live the love I have for God.
I need to step out in love, toward obedience and trust.

Powerful message, Laura and good reminder
"Trust and obedience that grows from love". . .sigh, you have no idea how the Lord is using your post to speak to me today. Sometimes trust and obedience sure are hard!! But you're right, my love for Him needs to spill over into said trust and obedience. Thanks for sharing!
I think that God had taught her how to trust in the hardest of circumstances. So maybe the worst of circumstances might actually be the best place to be when it comes to our walk with God. Thanks for this thought-provoking post, Laura Lee.
This Bible story always humbles me. Do I give this way? I'm not sure I do most days. I want to live this way too, Laura. Trusting Him for it all.
