Simple things.
That's what summer is about.
And that's what I'm thankful for today.
I'm linking up with Susanne for Friday’s Fave Five today.
Come on over and join us.
My five favorites this week:
1. Waking to the smell of waffles cooking in the morning. My college boy is home and he treated us to waffles on Wednesday morning. It was great to sleep in and great to have breakfast all ready for me!
2. My grandson’s first sentence. With books in his hands, Aiden says, “I wanna read.” How awesome is that?
3. Recovery and strength. He still has a ways to go, but my son is seeing encouraging improvement. He’s working hard!
4. Reading. Do I say it every week? I think so, in some form. Reading has been a blessing for me this last six months. It’s an easy way to pass time—a few minutes or an hour, I can use it to read.
5. This quote:
“I try to avoid looking forward or backward, and try to keep looking upward.” (Charlotte Bronte)
We can waste a lot of time looking forward (and worrying) or backward (and regretting), but it’s looking upward that really brings peace.
Looking up today,

good reminder to savor the simple in summer. Thanks Laura
So wonderful to read your five each week. Thanks, Laura :)
Yay for Bronte!! and so much truth in that quote! How awesome that your son made breakfast and that A is showing good signs of improvement. My fave fave of yours is your grandson's sentence!! WHOO HOO!! I was sooo happy when my children started enjoying books...at a young age....we love books!! Great list of blessings, Laura, have a great weekend!!
What a great first sentence!
How nice to have breakfast made and ready when you wake up!
I could probably list reading every week, too.
So glad your son is continuing to recuperate.
How appropriate that your grandson's first sentence was "I wanna read!" Awesome! His parents are training him well.
Love that quote from Bronte - upward looking brings peace. I'll have to remember that one.
I love your grandson's first sentence!! As I'm sure you did :)
I'm enjoying PD James book - Death comes to Pemberley. I'm on chapter 3 so far and it's really good!
Homemade waffles sound lovely - and how nice to have your boy home cooking them! Glad to hear that Andrew is progressing. Saying a prayer for him right now.
Wonderful quote! Hard to do but work practising!
Happy weekend Laura!
oops I mean "worth practising" (Also work too) :)
Ok, how did you get your son to make waffles for you?!!! That's great. :) Yay for all the favs. I love your grandson's first sentence, I know you'll NEVER forget that one.
chuckling at your grandson--sounds like he's off to a fantastic start! :)
I am still waiting for summer ! We are still in the 50F ! Sometimes a little more ! My motto is live moment for moment. Looking back doesn't change anything and I am not a future planner only when it comes to prepare a trip !
That is one fantastic quote! Waking up to the smell of breakfast sounds like vacation to me. You certainly raised that boy right!
